In the State of Arizona, 1 in 4 students are living in poverty. Students experiencing poverty or near-poverty conditions face unique challenges (and so do the schools and organizations that serve them). Drawing on the research from multiple disciplines including neuroscience, psychology, sociology, and education, this course will provide students with an overview of the factors that impact individuals living in poverty. With a specific focus on teaching and learning strategies, students will learn the concepts, strategies, and techniques that positively impact students experiencing poverty.
