Free Money You Don't Have to Pay Back

Federal grants are awarded to undergraduate students based on financial need. Unlike loans, grants do not have to be repaid to the government. Most students who complete the FAFSA are considered for grant eligibility automatically.

To qualify for federal grants, you must complete the FAFSA each year. ACU’s school code is 007113. Financial need is determined by the Department of Education using a standard formula.

Federal Pell Grant

Need-based — amounts vary

This program provides need-based grants to eligible undergraduates. Financial need is determined by the Department of Education using a standard formula. Students must apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Up to $1,000/year

This program provides need-based grants to eligible undergraduates. At Arizona Christian University, eligible students can receive up to $1,000 a year based on Pell Grant eligibility and demonstration of need. To qualify, students must apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA.

Federal TEACH Grant

Up to $4,000/year

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides up to $4,000 per year in grants for undergraduate students who intend to teach full-time in high-need subject areas for at least four years at schools that serve students from low-income families.

Students may receive up to $16,000 for undergraduate study. Part-time students are eligible, but the maximum grant will be reduced.

If you do not complete your teaching service obligation, the TEACH Grant will be converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan that must be repaid with interest.

Arizona State Aid Programs

Arizona Teacher Student Loan Program

The Arizona Teacher Student Loan Program is a need-based forgivable loan designed to financially support and encourage private college students who are Arizona residents to become teachers in an Arizona public school. Interested students must enter into an agreement to teach in an Arizona public school for every year loan funding is received.

To qualify:

  • Arizona resident
  • Citizen or legal resident of the U.S. or otherwise lawfully present in the U.S.
  • Admitted and enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate, or post-baccalaureate student at a qualifying post-secondary institution
  • File a FAFSA each year enrolled in the program
  • Sign a student agreement specifying eligibility requirements, service obligations, and repayment obligations

Loan recipients have a grace period of 12 months after graduation or earning their teaching credential to begin teaching. Deferment may be available for active military duty, graduate school enrollment, or circumstances beyond the recipient’s control.
