Language Arts in the Elementary School

This course provides content and methods to teach language arts in the elementary school. The course touches on all elements of the Science of Reading and goes in-depth in the areas of oral language, vocabulary, and foundational writing skills including handwriting. It will also take a more in-depth look at how writing and reading can be integrated in science, social studies, and math. Participants will learn how to help their students cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to argue or support their beliefs. All teachers, including teachers of science, math, and social studies, are expected to integrate language arts into their curriculum. This required methods course includes a practicum. Arizona ELA and content standards will be used for lesson preparation.
