Course Description

This course is a study of the foundations and development of the literacy skills in the Science of Reading. This course touches on all elements of the Science of Reading and goes in-depth in assessing and teaching oral language, phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, phonics, syllable types and how they impact decoding, as well as encoding for spelling. The course also provides specific instruction on research-informed interventions and working with students with dyslexia. Vocabulary instruction is addressed through a study of morphology, including word origins, affixes, and root words. Students will apply what they learn by assessing and tutoring individual students. This course is taught with a biblical worldview.
Practicum Required: 10 hours (tutoring).
