The college-level algebra foundation that prepares students for calculus, statistics, and science coursework.
MAT 112 is the study of functions — linear, quadratic, power, exponential, logarithmic, and rational. Topics include polynomials, radicals, exponents, coordinate geometry, rational expressions and equations, solutions to equations, and matrices. The course introduces students to the concept of functions and their graphs, with an emphasis on problem solving throughout.
MAT 112 satisfies the general-education math requirement on its own for many ACU degrees, and serves as the prerequisite for MAT 220 Brief Calculus, the General Chemistry sequence, and General Physics — making it a gateway course for science-track students. A graphing calculator is required.
