Voice and Movement

This course introduces students to the voice and body as expressive instruments in communication. Through applied performance activities, students explore the anatomy and physiology of vocal production, including respiration, phonation, resonation, articulation, and body alignment. In addition, students explore physical awareness, movement dynamics, and stage presence through the memorization and delivery of classic speeches, monologues, arias, and other works. Students apply these principles through exercises, improvisation, and recitation designed to cultivate clarity, expressiveness, and storytelling. Instructors place emphasis on developing awareness of the connection between breath, voice, and movement in order to support effective performance in music, theatre, and public communication.
