Course Description

Introduction to Music Theory I prepares students to read music in both treble and bass clefs. Course material includes basic reading/writing/singing of pitches and rhythms on the staff and on the piano. Course also includes order of sharps and flats, major and minor key signatures in sharp and flat keys, and introductory sign reading. Course does not satisfy Music Theory requirements. At the end of the course all students will take the Music Theory Placement Exam to move to MUS 099 Introduction of Music Theory II, or to MUS 101 Music Theory I.
