Course Description

This course surveys the historical and philosophical developments in American conservative political thought from 1945 to the present. The class introduces the political and philosophical heritage of conservatism, as well as examining themes that are relevant to contemporary American politics today. The focus will be on the principles and ideas of conservatism, rather than on analyzing policies or proposals. Emphasis will be placed on primary source readings.
