ACU’s Early Childhood Education Minor is built for students preparing to teach, lead, or serve young children — preschoolers, kindergartners, and the early-elementary years where so much of life-long learning takes shape. The 18-credit minor pairs four foundation courses with four fieldwork placements, then layers in the classroom-methods courses early educators actually need.
The structure is intentional. Each one-credit ECE foundation course — Early Literacy (260), Human Development for the Young Child (261), Learning Environments for the Young Child (262), and Early Childhood Special Education (263) — pairs with a fieldwork placement (ECE 265–268) so what you study in the classroom you immediately practice in a real one. A capstone (ECE 264) ties the four foundations together. From there, three substantial method courses — Children’s Books for the Classroom (EDU 230), Curriculum and Instruction (EDU 317), and Structured English Immersion Methods (SEI 490) — give you the practical teaching skills Arizona classrooms assume.
Pairs especially naturally with Elementary Education, Child Development, Family Studies, and Christian Ministries — and serves as strong preparation for early-childhood teaching, center leadership, or children’s ministry roles.
