Women’s Golf Battles Rain in First Spring Event

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Arizona Christian University women’s golf program kicked off its spring season Tuesday afternoon at the two-day, OUAZ Invitation Tournament hosted by Ottawa University – Arizona at Wigwam Golf Course.

Heavy rain initially suspended Monday’s first-round action, eventually pushing all play to Tuesday afternoon in an 18-hole, one-round setting on a new course at Wigwam.  Only the 18-hole round played on Tuesday was counted toward the final standings.

ACU did not compete as a team, and instead had three individuals compete, led by Mia Guevara, who finished 13 over (85) while also finishing tied for 17th place overall.

After the event, head coach Kristal Parker said, “My, what tough conditions we experienced in Litchfield Park over the past few days.  After the first round not getting completed due to challenging weather conditions and the tournament course (Wigwam Gold) receiving much damage, we were switched to the Wigwam Red course on the second day.  Having never seen the course before posed a challenge, along with coming off a two-month break.  I saw improvement in the gals’ games with what they have been working on.  With continued hard work and patience I anticipate our scores will start to drop as we continue our busy spring season.”

4. William Jessup: 345 (+57)
