Latimer Places Fourth in Weight Class at Nationals
PARK CITY, Kan. – ACU wrestler Jack Latimer‘s season ended in the consolation semifinals earlier today, but he made history at the NAIA Wrestling Champions by becoming the first ACU wrestler to become an NAIA All-American.
He earned All-American status yesterday after shocking his weight class with a win over the No. 1 seed and No. 9 seed in his bracket to proel him forward into the semifinal round today.
In his first matchup, Latimer started strong but ultimately fell to a returning finalist in a 9-6 decision. That loss moved him into the consolation semifinal bracket where he would pick up a 6-3 win by decision, giving him the chance to compete for third place.
Latimer fought hard but would fall to his opponent in the battle for third place, and instead would take home fourth place and NAIA All-American honors. His fourth-place finish is the highest finish at Nationals in program history.
In his first season with the Firestorm, Latimer shined by taking second place in his weight class at the Hastings Open, and defeated both of his opponents in the program’s next dual against Vanguard and Simpson. He projects to be a top returner for the Firestorm next season.
