Systems specialist. Entrepreneur. Children’s minister. Mother of four. Since earning her degree from ACU in 2018, Melisha Alhambra has taken on roles she couldn’t have predicted—and looking back over those eight years, she can trace God’s hand through everyone, shaping her purpose to shepherd, support, and advocate for children and families.
Melisha earned her Bachelor of Science in Family Studies. During her senior year, a professor connected her with an internship at the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family, and that internship changed her trajectory. It shifted her focus from working directly with children and families to understanding—and influencing—the larger systems that surround them.
After graduation, she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the Governor’s Council on Child Safety and Family Empowerment, then became an Outreach Coordinator with First Things First, Arizona’s early childhood agency. In 2020, the Arizona Department of Health Services hired her as an Early Care and Education Systems Specialist.
Melisha never left her passion for child development at the office. In June 2020, she began fostering four siblings, then ages 2, 3, 8, and 9. In December 2021, she adopted all four. Today her children are 8, 9, 14, and 15.
Motherhood reshaped how she sees her work. She was no longer only a systems partner. She was a parent working through those same systems herself. She learned firsthand how hard it can be for families to manage child care, education, health and human services, and other systems that don’t always talk to one another. As a single mother, she also discovered that building a support network and asking for help are essential. Those experiences deepened her conviction that the environments, programs, policies, and systems around families must honor the inherent dignity of children and parents alike.
In 2025, Melisha launched Desert SEEDS LLC—Sustainable Early Education and Development Solutions—to help early childhood programs strengthen quality, compliance, organizational systems, and professional practice. Then, in February 2026, while taking part in the Hustle PHX 101 Entrepreneurship Program, she started developing her next venture: The Village Child and Family Development Center.
For Melisha, The Village is more than a childcare program. It keeps her close to children and families as a practitioner, and it lets her draw on everything she has learned as an educator, systems professional, consultant, minister, advocate, and mother. She is building it on a clear view of children: capable, worthy, inherently dignified, and made in the image of God. In her eyes, quality isn’t an add-on to early childhood care—it is the foundation.
Through every career change, ministry has stayed at the center of her life. Melisha became a licensed minister in 2013 and has served in children’s, youth, and young adult ministries. After graduating, she even came back to ACU to speak in chapel. Today she serves as children’s minister at The Table, a Nazarene-affiliated house church.
Melisha intends to keep transforming culture with truth — as a mother, a ministry leader, and a business owner serving her community.
