Santa Clarita, CA- The cross-country team traveled to Santa Clarita, CA for the GSAC Cross Country Championships on Friday afternoon held at Central Park. Leading the way for the Firestorm and earning All-GSAC honors was senior Alison Unruh who finished 8th overall in a time of 23:32 and junior Priscilla Celis-Saldivar who finished 11th in 23:53. Both will represent the team and the GSAC Conference at the NAIA National Championships on Friday November 20.
Also joining Unruh and Celis-Saldivar at the national meet will be freshman Piper Shannon who finished 13th overall in 24:01 to grab the last individual qualifying spot. Finishing fourth on the team was junior Eva Huff who ran a new personal course best time of 24:37, and followed by sophomores Brennen Stephens (27:55) and Trinity Ball (30:14).
Thoughts from Head Coach Brent Fahsholz
“I am really proud of the effort our ladies gave today. Alison has been so consistent since the day she arrived on campus; there was never a doubt in my mind how she would run today. Priscilla is as resilient a runner as I’ve coached, and after a tough season last year, and some early season struggles this year, ran her best race today to not only qualify for nationals, but also earn All-GSAC against a talented field. They have been tremendous leaders for Piper who while a gifted runner showed quite a bit of guts and mental toughness today. And for the three ladies whose season came to an end today, and who wanted to run a better race – one race does not make you a great or a bad runner. The whole of their season was the growth you hope to see from a running and character standpoint.”
