COME AND SEE: ACU Hosts a Premiere of The Chosen’s Season 6

The Chosen left its fans hanging. Season 5 closed in the Garden of Gethsemane with Judas’s betrayal, and viewers everywhere have been waiting to see how the next elements of the biblical story would be portrayed. The ACU community got to find out early.

ACU invited alumni, students, faculty, family, and friends to an exclusive premiere of the first episode of Season 6 on October 1—weeks before the new season debuts on Prime Video in November. This season follows Jesus to the cross, and the screening sparked spiritual conversations while giving viewers a vivid picture of events the Gospels describe.

Anticipation filled Rhode Auditorium as guests found their seats. For longtime fans, this moment had been building for years: The Chosen released its first episode in April 2019, and viewers have waited more than seven years for the series to reach the climax of its retelling of Jesus’ life.

The episode delivered. It explored not only Jesus’ arrest but also the turmoil inside the disciples as their expectations collided with reality. One especially moving scene showed Jesus healing the ear of the temple servant (Luke 22:50–51). Even as He was being betrayed, Jesus showed love to the very men who came to seize Him—a response His disciples struggled to understand, let alone imitate.

Viewers felt as if they were standing in the Garden themselves. The disciples’ anger, anxiety, and doubt as they watched Jesus’ arrest felt raw and real, and the auditorium went silent.

Five seasons of character development give The Chosen’s portrayal of the Passion unusual weight. Its characters have witnessed life-changing miracles, experienced Jesus’ love, and learned from His teaching—yet each carries individual struggles, stories, and sacrifices as they follow Him. Fans have grown attached to these characters over the years, so the events surrounding the arrest hit that much harder.

When the episode ended, many guests stayed to talk through the questions it raised. What was going through the disciples’ minds that night? How could Judas betray Jesus? What did the setting and the people really look like? Those conversations pushed people to think more deeply about who Jesus is and what He has done for them.

Season 6 officially arrives on Prime Video in November. For those who were in Rhode Auditorium for the special premiere showing, the conversation has already started.
