Course Description
GRK 311 starts students translating the Greek New Testament. The course teaches the basic grammar, vocabulary, and translation skills needed to actually use a Greek New Testament in personal study and ministry — not just to recognize a few words, but to work through passages with care.
The pace is brisk by design. New Testament Greek isn't impossible, but it does reward consistent daily work, and the course is structured around that conviction. By the end of the semester, students can read short passages directly from the Greek text and recognize how grammatical decisions in translation shape meaning.
GRK 311 is the gateway to GRK 312 the following semester and to the upper-division Greek courses beyond that. For students who want to engage Scripture at its most careful level — and for those headed to seminary — this is where it begins.

Translate Short Passages
Work directly from the Greek New Testament on selected short passages.

Bring grammatical observations to bear on interpretation and ministry preparation.
Biblical Worldview Connection
A Biblical Worldview takes Scripture seriously enough to want to read it as closely as possible — including in its original languages. GRK 311 treats biblical Greek not as an academic hoop but as a tool for careful interpretation. Translations approximate; the original text is what they approximate from.
