Glendale, Ariz.- On the strength of hitting .714 against OUAZ on Saturday, Sophomore Claire Buckley was voted the GSAC Softball Player of the Week as announced by the Golden State Athletic Conference on Monday.
Buckley, who calls home Clovis, CA, went 5-7 with a home run, three runs and two RBI against the Spirit. The shortstop went 3-3 in game one as Arizona Christian collected a 5-0 game one victory against OUAZ to collect a win in their very first game played on the new ACU Softball Field.
After seeing just three pitches in her first two at-bats, Buckley had produced two big firsts in the first true game home for the Firestorm. Leading off the bottom of the first inning, Buckley singled back up the middle on the first pitch thrown her way to collect the first hit on the new field. One inning later, Buckley delivered the second pitch of her at bat over the left field fence to account for the first softball home run hit on actual ACU soil.
The five hits for Buckley raised her to .415 on the year.
Way to go- Claire!
