Choral + General Methods
Choral methods plus general music methods
Choral Conducting
Dedicated conducting for the choral podium
Ensemble Experience
Chorale + a choice of ensemble electives
If the classroom you picture yourself leading is a choir room — students singing together, learning to blend, growing into musicians — the Choral emphasis prepares you to lead it well. It builds on the full Music Education music and secondary-education core with focused study of choral conducting, choral methods, and general music methods.
Alongside the shared music core (four semesters of theory and sight-singing, music history, applied lessons, piano) and the full secondary-education preparation (classroom management, exceptional learners, SEI methods, Directed Student Teaching), you’ll add sixteen credits shaped around the choral classroom: Choral Conducting, Choral Music Education Methods, General Music Education Methods, and Developmental Band, plus four semesters of Chorale and a choice of ensemble electives. You’ll graduate a certified music teacher, prepared to lead a choir and a general music classroom.

Teach General Music Too

Understand Instrumental Ensembles
A developmental band course grounds you in the ensembles your students may join or participate in.
Sing With Skill Every Semester
Chorale each term keeps your own musicianship sharp while you prepare to lead others.
Choral teaching is uniquely communal — a group of singers becoming one voice. A Biblical Worldview shapes how you understand the students in your care and the music they're making together.
Every Voice Has Worth
Choral teaching includes the confident singer, the nervous first-year, and everyone in between — all image-bearers with something to contribute. That conviction shapes how you audition, place, and encourage every student.
Forms a rehearsal room where every singer is treated with dignity.
Music That Points Beyond Itself
Choral literature carries some of the deepest human expression — grief, joy, longing, praise. Framed by a theology of worship, teaching students to sing this repertoire well is teaching them to engage with what matters most.
Grounds your programming and rehearsal in music worth their time.
The Ensemble as Community
A choir functions when singers set self aside for the sound. That formative lesson — service, listening, contributing to something bigger — sits well within a Biblical Worldview of community.
Frames your ensemble as a place where character is formed alongside skill.
