Inside the Box Score
After the top half of the fourth inning, things weren’t looking good for the Firestorm, staring up at an eight run lead while only having one batter actually reach base safely. But good teams don’t stay down long, as Titialii got the scoring started with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. ACU would go on to get four runs on four hits, cutting the lead in half. That’s when Quinton and Elliott took over on the mound, holding the Royals to just one earned run for the rest of the game. The ACU offense continued to chip away, adding 2 runs in the 7th, and 4 more in the 9th so send the game to extra innings. That four run 9th inning started with an RBI double from Tanner Vielguth, followed by two more RBI doubles from Terlizzi and Eastham, and ended with a run-scoring groundout from Andrew Ivy. However with ACU playing their 3rd game in a 24 hour period, the arms of the bullpen were zapped, and Hope was able to sneak out an unearned run in the top of the 10th, ending ACU’s chance at a GSAC title.
Next for the Firestorm
ACU Baseball may still receive an at-large bid into the opening round of the NAIA Baseball tournament. The selection show will take place on Thursday, May 11th, and will reveal if the Firestorm season continues.
