Balanced Attack Leads Firestorm Past Justice
Glendale, Ariz.- Playing at home for the third straight day, Arizona Christian used a balanced attack to sweep Justice 3-0 on Friday evening. The Firestorm improved to 5-2 on the season with a 25-16, 25-9, 25-16 victory. Eleven different Firestorm recorded a kill in the win.
Trailing 3-1 in the opening set, ACU answered with a 5-0 run to take the lead. Zuri Reeser had two kills during the run, while Ashlynn Craven added an ace. The Firestorm never gave the lead back, taking the opener 25-16.
Olivia Stubenrauch was near perfect at the net in the opening set, recording five kills on six attacks. She finished with seven kills on the night while hitting .400.
ACU came out strong in the second set, grabbing seven of the first eight points. The Firestorm continued to pull away and rolled to a 25-9 win to take a 2-0 advantage.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle early as neither team could gain separation. Justice led 9-8 before ACU exploded with a 7-0 run to take control. Haley Kootstra had two kills during the surge, while Reeser added two aces. The Firestorm maintained the momentum to close out the sweep, 25-16.
Reeser led ACU with eight kills, while Stubenrauch added seven and Kootstra finished with five. Becca Thomson recorded 14 assists and Addison Bowie added nine as the Firestorm hit .452 as a team.
Arizona Christian will open GSAC play next Friday when the Firestorm host Hope International at 6 p.m.
