Sherby Leads To GSAC Opening Sweep

Glendale, Ariz.- On Friday evening, Madison Sherby topped Arizona Christian in kills and digs as the Firestorm swept Hope International, 3-0, to open GSAC play. Sherby finished with 13 kills and 10 digs while hitting .455.  Zuri Reeser added eight kills and four digs, while Madison Van Wie recorded seven kills.

  • Arizona Christian jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set and extended the advantage to 11-1
  • The Firestorm never trailed as Van Wie recorded six kills and Sherby added five kills in the set
  • Behind 8-5 in the second set, ACU used a 5-0 run to move in front
  • ACU maintained the lead the rest of the way, with Sherby adding five more kills
  • Set three was tied at 15-15 before Arizona Christian closed the match on a 10-4 run to complete the sweep

Becca Thomson finished with 17 assists, while Addison Bowie added 13 assists. The Firestorm hit .276 as a team and held the Royals to a .048 hitting percentage.

Arizona Christian improves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in GSAC play.  The Firestorm will host NAIA No. 17 The Master’s on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Firestorm Recreation Center.
