The Firestorm capitalized on one of their best scoring opportunities in the opening half when Cadence Peroff found the back of the net in the 36th minute.
Peroff’s strike at the 35:57 mark proved to be the difference, giving ACU a 1-0 advantage they would protect for the remainder of the match.
Carroll applied consistent pressure throughout the contest, outshooting ACU 19-10 and holding an 11-3 edge in first-half attempts.
However, the Firestorm defense remained organized, and goalkeeper Tayler Wonderly turned in an outstanding performance between the posts. The senior recorded eight saves over 90 minutes to preserve the clean sheet, including five stops in the second half as Carroll pushed for the equalizer.
Despite being outshot, ACU made its opportunities count.
Peroff led the attack with three shots, all on target, while Krista Hardesty and Ella Barron each added three attempts.
ACU beat Carroll College, 1-0.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH GIBBS “Great [way] to start the season with a win against a quality opponent. We battled together as a team today and learned how to close out a competitive game. [I’m] proud of the team.”
