Strong Team Performance Propels Ladies Cross Country at Highlander

Six young women runners in red uniforms stand shoulder to shoulder on a dirt track outdoors, smiling; one wears bib 17.

Riverside, CA- The cross country team travelled west to compete in the Highlander Invitational hosted by UC-Riverside.  The race was the team’s final regular season race before setting their sites for the GSAC Championships on November 6.

Leading the way for the ladies’ team was senior Alison Unruh who finished 7th overall with a lifetime best time of 22:38. Following behind her was the trio of Priscilla Celis-Saldivar, Eva Huff and Piper Shannon who went 25th, 26th and 27th and finished a mere three seconds apart at 22:19, 22:20 and 22:22.  The team was without sophomore Alexi Till who has twice been the team’s #2 runner, but got a huge effort from sophomore Brennen Stephens who ran a lifetime best of 25:37 which was a minute faster than she ran the course last year.

Thoughts from Coach Fahsholz
“Our ladies ran a fantastic race today.  What we lacked in quantity we certainly made up for in quality.  Down one of our top runners, they showed terrific focus and competitive spirit against a strong field today.  All five of our racers ran lifetime bests, and even better, were a tight pack.  We are excited to begin our final preparations for the GSAC meet on November 6 – these ladies are ready for it.”
